April 26, 2008 - Armoring Boggy Spots (Picture 4 of 5)
This was one of the worst spots. The picture on the left was taken in March, 2006. It hadn't rained quite so much, so the trail is muddy but there is no standing water. You can see deep tire marks where the bikes didn't like going over the logs Note, that the original drainage was only about 1-1/2 ft wide, but the logs thown in dammed up the stream and formed a giant bog, about 8 feet wide. On the right, we re-established a natural drainage, which allowed about half of the puddle to flow out. The muck was scooped out, and a fairly firm, natural surface forms the bottom. Rocks line the trail and allows pedestrians to keep their feet dry, even when there's a lot of water. |
